Ribbon Cake with Ribbon Cupcakes and Basketball Cake

Yeah, yeah, I know, its either I don't post, or I post TWO in a day. Well, I couldn't help it! It was an exciting day for me! I completed 2 cake orders today ( I know, one of them was originally planned for tomorrow as collection day, but there was a change of plans.)! One for the rose and vine motif cupcakes, and the 3D basketball one, and i couldn't wait to post the pictures!!!!! I love it when people come round to pick up their cakes, not knowing what to expect, and upon seeing their cakes, they ask if its really edible. To me, that's the highest form of compliment any cake decorator can receive :) It makes me beam even more, when I get a call or note from them after their special occasion is over, telling me how much the celebrant liked it. It makes me feel, I don't know... good? Is that even the right word to use? Perhaps, satisfied is a better adjective.  That really makes my day, I would feel floaty floaty and  walk with a spring in my step all day. Pretty easy to please huh? Even I'm embarrassed : )

So anyway, peektures!!!!

3 Tiered Fairy Cake

I love looking at old photos. Not so much photos of me, but of other people like my kids, my family, my friends and of course food. Old photos never fail to make me gasp in awe at how much change has taken place without me even noticing it i.e.; my kids, or in the case of food, I normally go," You mean I made that??? Its HIDEOUS/YUCKY/PERFECT! Wish I can replicate that again!". So there, cold as I may appear to be, I am actually a glob of sentimental and nostalgic marshmallow inside.

Anyways, I've posted pictures of my fondant cakes, some hits, some misses, but still loving each and every experience.

This was my virgin attempt at fondant and gum paste. When I first read up on fondant and gum paste, it was described as "baker's play dough" which made me think,"shouldn't be tough?". Well, I was right and wrong. Fondant which I made at home, was speckled with bits of gelatin, but was a dream to knead. It really was like play dough, except edible! Gum paste on the contrary, which I specially purchased Tylose (aka CMC) powder to make, was a nightmare. Like I said in my post here, it was ROCK hard. No make it DIAMOND hard. But I had to use gum paste for the fairy figurine I was going to make for my lil girl, since ALL the websites that i researched on insists that gum paste be used for flowers and figurines. Doesn't help also that the characteristics of gum paste is such that it dries up quickly, even more so than fondant, plus the fact that I suffer from mild OCD, so it took me one friggin day to make the pair of LEGS. All in all, I reckon I must have spent almost a week on just the fairy alone. BUT BUT BUT, it was fun. I enjoyed the making of it despite the frustrations and expletives that were strewn out in the process.

Work in Progress

SO!!!! Peektures, as promised!

Managed to get a coupla shots of my current WIP cake order. I really like this one that I'm working on, but than again, I have the tendency to say that about ALL my cakes. Opps, narcissistic eh? I guess I'm OCD in a sense that I hate to settle for anything less when it comes to cake making/decorating. If I can make it as close to what I deem is perfection, then why shouldn't I? My husb loves to tease me whenever I get into such acts, cos I will get all antsy pantsy if I don't put things right.  Now, if only I can apply this quirk into other aspects of life.

So this order was for 30 odd vanilla cupcakes. 30 odd because I'm not sure yet how many mini cuppies it would take to fill up the stand, plus a 6" dummy cake, cos she wants to keep it.

Center rose and side vine motifs were stenciled and hand cut.

Popping the cherry.

Well, after much nagging form the people around me, here I am forging into the world of food blogging with a vengeance. Its not like I've never attempted to start one before, but the lazy ass in me always seems to get in the way. We'll see how far this latest attempt goes!

A short intro to whomever may be reading this. I'm a SAHM, with 2 adorable rascals (which parent doesn't think their kids are?), and married to an ass of a husband. Just kidding. My husband is love, wit, humour and patience all rolled into one. He's the main reason for this blog actually.
