Gum Ball Machine Cake

19th January. I have a bittersweet kinda love for this date. My lil girl was born on that day 7 years ago. Its supposed to be a joyous occassion, but i find myself dreading it more and more as each year passes, cos I REALLY DON'T WANT MY KIDS TO GROW UP!!!!! if there was such a thing as an anti growth, age mutating pill, i will feed them to my kids. cos i want my babies to always stay my babies. : (

So what got me into baking was because i wanted my kids' childhood memories be filled with home baked birthday cakes. and i think i have really come a long way, from my first ever hard/rubbery chiffon cakes, till today's fondant cakes. its almost like a coming of age sort of thing. : )

Well, for my lil girl's 7th birthday this year, i made her a gumball machine cake. i think her heart almost skipped a beat when she first saw rows of gumball machines at a shopping mall in london last december. and so, here we have a gumball machine cake. a pink one at that ; )

Home Made Pineapples Tarts

So part of the reason for being busy this week was because i had some pineapple tart orders for my lil girl's friend's mommy. Been quite a while since the husband and i joined forces to make/bake our own tarts, and i must say it was an awesome bonding time : )

Pineapple tarts are very much apart of our Chinese new year tradition, especially in Singapore and Malaysia, and every lunar new year you will see pineapple tarts  for sale at every corner you turn. the making of pineapple tarts can be either a laborious affair or straight forward one, depending on how lazy you are. those with a spare bit of time (and arm power), will opt to make their pineapple tarts from scratch, while others can opt to buy ready made paste from supermarkets.

For our case, we love the taste of home made pineapple jam, and not the sugar laden, artificial flavoured ones. so we bought a total of 30 pineapples, grated, strained and cooked them over low heat for hours. tedious, but very worth the effort. i like : )

Power Ranger Cake and Cupcakes

Pardon the short hiatus, I was caught up with some orders for the week, and i finally found some energy to blog about a cake i delivered last weekend. Anyways, a pretty mommy mailed me and  enquired if i was up for making a cake for her GREEN power ranger crazed son, Mathew. So this was what i came up with.

Bowling Theme Cake

Cake 2 for my fav cake order-er was given away today. This time done for her youngest son, Timmy. Timmy's party was held at a bowling alley, hence the theme for this cake. We eventually  settled for a bowling lane cake, decorated with purple balloons and LOADS of confetti.

Log House Cake

My fav cake order-er is back in action, and her first assignment for me for the year is an "in-construction log house" cake for the godmom of her 2 sons. The idea of this cake stems from a romantic tale of the husband of the cake recipient wanting to build a log cabin for his lovely wife. in the words of my fav cake order-er, "so sweet..... can cry..." : )

Sculpted Basketball Cake with Socks

A funky mommy contacted me whilst we were in Holland last month and got me to make her 17year old son a surprise basketball cake. She wanted a slight variation and i did so by adding a dirty, literally (not figuratively, she's saving that for her 21year old nephew soon), twist. So on top of smelly socks like the previous basketball cake, i threw in some cute little flies hoovering around.

Fairy under an Arch of Flowers Cake

Today i gave away another cake to a little fairy named Jennifer. She is friends with fairy Aiko sitting on a swing. Her mommy contacted me a month ago and asked if i could do a fairy themed cake for her lil girl, and since the idea of a fairy sitting beneath a flower arch has been at the back of my head for some time, i thought this would be the perfect time to try it!
