壽 - Longevity Cake

So today we celebrated my father-in-laws birthday (the actual day is tom) over a scrumptious BBQ at home. I made him a simple but VERY auspicious looking fondant cake, which i thought would actually look pretty nice if it were tiered. But since it was meant for just our family, i made it nice and intimate with a single tier. : )

Nothing fancy, just the word written in traditional chinese and painted gold, which means Longevity. and around the borders i tried out my new lace mold and painted it gold as well.

Cake was chocolate with oreos filling.

A reader of my blog has requested a picture of the cross section of my cakes, and incidentally i remembered that we finally managed to get a shot when we cut my FIL's cake.

Unfortunately there was no rice krispies involved though. But i will try to snap a picture the next time i have a chance!
